If you are getting a Needs Review at the final step of filing your TurboTax return, you can try the steps listed below to resolve this.

  • Go out of your program, close your browser and go back in.
  • Clear your cache and cookies. Click here for How to clear your cache. Click here for How do I delete cookies?
  • Try a different Web browser, such as Chrome or Firefox.
  • If you are using a VPN, disable it.
  • Make sure your internet connection is strong and stable
  • If you are using TurboTax Desktop, you can manually check for updates for  your TurboTax program by clicking on "Online" in the black bar near the top of your screen and selecting "Check for Updates."

Also, make sure all of your Forms W-2 are complete and accurate.  Delete and re-enter them if necessary. I have listed the steps below.

Often, you can still go forward and file your return even if you are getting a Needs Review as long as everything is complete and accurate.

To delete a Form W-2 if you used TurboTax Online you can:

  1. Click on "Tax Tools" in the left panel of your TurboTax screen
  2. Select  "Tools"
  3. Click on "Delete a Form"
  4. Scroll down the list of your forms to find your Form W2
  5. Click on the trash can to the right of your form to delete it

To delete a Form W-2 If you used TurboTax Desktop, you can:

  1. Click on "Forms" in the top right of your TurboTax screen to switch to "Forms Mode"
  2. In your left panel of your TurboTax screen find Form W-2
  3. Click on "Delete Form" at the bottom of the form
  4. Click on "Yes" to confirm the deletion

To check your W-2 entries or to go back and re-enter your Form W-2 information, you can get to these screens in TurboTax as follows:

  1. Click on "Search" in the top right of your TurboTax screen.
  2. Type "W-2" in the search bar.
  3. Click on the link "Jump to W-2"
  4. Continue through your TurboTax screens to manually enter your Form W-2 or review your W-2 entries.
  5. Make sure all follow-up questions are properly answered

The reply didn’t solve my issue and I am still struggling to finish my return. Very very frustrated! I was on the phone with a rep for 2+ hours and they couldn’t resolve the issue.

I am sorry you are having this experience. Have you tried using a different device, or a different internet provider?

One more idea:

Sometimes, if you enter a section and exit it, without making an entry, TurboTax will create a form for the entry that would go with that section, and Review will look for an entry in that form. It could also be that the form was created because of an entry carried over from last year.

If you have blank forms or forms with a "0" that are not needed, such as for W-2G or K-1, you can get out of this by deleting the forms that TurboTax has prepared from your opening the screens that support them.

If you are using TurboTax Online, see this help article and below for the steps to Delete a Form:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. On Tax Home, select Start, Continue, or Pick up where you left off to enter your return.
  3. In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools.
  4. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form. (Look for any form or worksheet relating to Medical expenses.)
  5. Select Delete next to the form, schedule, and worksheet in the list and follow the instructions.

If you are using a Desktop version of TurboTax, you can switch to Forms Mode (click on Forms at the top of the screen when you are in Step-by-Step Mode), review the list of forms on the left, then select the one you wish to delete. When the form displays, click "Delete Form" at the bottom of the screen.
