Why won't TurboTax use my itemized deduction total.I am filing married separately. Schedule A deductions total $15640, but Turbo Tax only gives me the Standard deduction?

In Forms view I was reviewing Schedule A with a deduction total of over $15,000.  It said to transfer this amount to 1040, line 8.  I went to line 8 and it had the standard 12,000 deduction.  I tried to manually change it, but the software wouldn't let me.  Why is it insisting that I take the standard deduction.

Since you are filing Married Filing Separately, you must match what your spouse is doing. The program asks, and you must have answered that your spouse is claiming Standard Deductions, in which case, you must also.
