Why won't Turbo Tax accept foreign credit cards? Are they trying to lose expat business?

TurboTax says: "Good news! Now you can e-file from a foreign address. Just make sure to pay for TurboTax with a U.S. credit card." This is not actually good news for customers who do not have a US credit card.

The excuse is pretty weak, especially considering the nature of the business: "Like many stateside merchants, we require a U.S. billing address to pay for TurboTax if using a credit or debit card."

Many stateside merchants do in fact accept foreign credit cards (or paypal). Not offering those options is choice by TurboTax  that makes life very difficult for a large number of customers.

Does anyone know of a workaround (short of getting someone in the USA to pay the TT fee for you)? Like sending them a check or wiring them the money?

Thanks!

Some ex-pats have gone to U.S. embassy buildings etc. to purchase reloadable debit cards  (Visa, Mastercard, AmEx)  that have a U.S. billing address in order to pay for their TT fees.   TT does not accept checks or money that you wire to them.

It may be a blessing in disguise.  TurboTax is weak and/or problematic with several foreign-related aspects, so I wouldn't recommend using TurboTax if you are not in the US.

If you really want to use it anyway, you may consider buying the CD/download from a well-know third-party reseller, such as Amazon, Walmart, etc.

as guesses. 1) the credit card could be a scam - ie Turbotax can't verify info. 2) exchange rate issues
