Is it giving you the Other Dependent Credit instead of the Child Tax Credit or is it giving you the Additional Child Tax Credit?
Even though your child has the SSN, you would not be eligible for the Child Tax credit due to not having a SSN, unless you are filing a joint return and your spouse has a SSN that is valid for work.

To qualify for the Child Tax Credit, you (or your spouse, if married filing jointly,) and each qualifying child must have a Social Security number that is valid for employment in the United States and issued before the due date of the tax return (including extensions).

is this a new rule? Last year I was able to claim the full child tax credit and I still did with my ITIN.
@analuzcardoza88 For tax year 2024 you only needed the ITIN for the Child Tax Credit. For tax year 2025 you are required to have a Social Security number to be eligible for the Child Tax Credit.

With the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill in July 2025, the 2025-2026 Child Tax Credit adds an eighth qualifying test: work-eligible Social Security Numbers for both the child and the person claiming the credit (only one filer is required to have the number for a joint tax return).
