Why is the estimated tax payments different that what I entered?

If you entered your 2024 estimated tax payments in TurboTax and they don't appear to be the same as what you entered, you can go back to the estimated tax section of TurboTax to see if you entered the correct amount of your estimated tax payments correctly.

To do this, you can use the following steps.

For TurboTax Online and Mobile

  1. Continue your return
  2. Go to the Estimated Tax Payments section
  3. For TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to estimated tax payments
  4. Select" Start" or "Revisit",  next to the type of estimated tax payment you'd like to enter under Estimated Tax Payments
  5. Enter the amount of estimated tax you paid at each quarterly due date

For TurboTax Desktop

  1. Continue your return.
  2. Go to the to the estimated tax payments section
  3. Click on the "Deductions & Credits" tab
  4. Scroll down to "Estimates and Other Taxes Paid" Click on" Start"
  5. You can visit all on the next screen or select "Start" next to the type of estimated payments you made
  6. Enter the amount of estimated tax you paid at each of the quarterly due dates

If you paid 2023 estimated taxes in 2024, you'll enter just one amount for each state or locality.

Your screen will look something like this:

To get to the estimated taxes paid section in TurboTax type "estimated tax payments" in the search box.

Click on "Start" or "Update" next to the estimated taxes you want to enter or review"

Answer "Yes" to "Did you pay federal estimated taxes for 2024?"

You can check your entries on this screen.
