Why is the amount of mortgage interest on the summary page different than the amount I entered under deductions?

I entered the correct amount of mortgage interest on the deductions page, but the summary of credits and deductions shows a lesser amount of mortgage interest.

Why is the amount of mortgage interest on the summary page different than the amount I entered under deductions?

The mortgage interest deduction is now more restricted than it was in the past.  One possibility is if the mortgage interest is on a refinanced or home equity line of credit loan and any cash was ever taken out that was not used for the improvement of the property, then the interest amount will be reduced for that portion of cash taken out.  This is a change for the mortgage interest deduction that started in 2018.   See more information below:
