Why is my tax refund so much smaller than last year with no changes from last year?
I suggest comparing your 2016 tax return to your 2017 tax return line by line to see the differences. Start at line 1 and work your way through the tax return. Once you have found the differences, you can look into them further to see if there is something wrong that would explain the difference in your refund amount.
To preview your 1040 in TurboTax follow these steps:
- Click "Tax Tools" (On the left in black)
- Click "Tools"
- Click "View Tax Summary" under "Other helpful links…"
- Click "Preview my 1040" its on the left in black.

Why is my tax refund so much smaller than last year with no changes from last year?
We're all a year older. Some deductions/credits (such as the Child Tax Credit) have age limits.
