Many state forms/schedules are not yet ready, so click Review to see what you are waiting for. and....the state cannot be accepted until the IRS accepts your federal return. The IRS will begin to accept e-files on January 23, so there is no rush to file the state today.
Possibilities:
1) Some form in the state set is not yet finalized for 2022 taxes yet
2) The state involved is not accepting E-files yet. Several are not.
3) You filed your Federal separately already.....if that is the case, you can't e-file any state until the IRS "accepts" your Federal e-file......and that won't happen until later this month
4) You chose to have your software fees deducted from your Federal refund, and the Federal refund will not cover all the software fees, PLUS the extra processing fee.
or
5) Some computer glitch is blocking it right now...try again on Monday. None of the state's forms will be sent to the state until AFTER the IRS accepts the Federal e-file...and that won't happen until later in January...sometime after 23 Jan.

As we keep telling people....NEVER file yoru tax returns in January.
Thank you! I wasn’t aware that I had to wait until the federal was accepted. I just saw when I filed federal that I would be able to file state on the 12th. Thank you so much.
Thank you. I never had an issue filing in January. I just wasn’t aware that I had to wait until the federal was accepted. Thank you for your insight!
Yeah, there's a couple of states that have potential earlier e-file dates.
There was one year where a bunch of ID theft state tax returns were filed when waiting for the Fed wasn't required........then that was stopped to allow Federal checks to go thru first. IF the Federal check kicks back a file for any reason, then the sate isn't submitted either, and the states aren't stuck with a load of amended tax returns for whatever needed to be corrected at the Federal level.
