When using the TurboTax desktop editions, there is a $25 state tax return e-file charge for each state return e-filed. This charge can be avoided by printing and mailing the state tax return.
As DoninGA mentions above, the $25 fee in TurboTax for your state tax return is the standard fee to electronically file (e-file) your state return. It is separate from the cost of the software that prepares the forms.
While TurboTax allows you to prepare your state return for free (if included with your edition), a fee applies to electronically file it.
You do not have to pay this fee if you want to file your state return by mail. You can get filing instructions for your particular state by visiting your state's Department of Revenue. How do I contact my state Department of Revenue?
If you select to file by mail, TurboTax will generate filing instructions for you that include the mailing addresses and required forms.
