Why does my state tax filing cost so much when I only earned 38000

The fees for using TurboTax are not based on your income. The fees for a particular version of TurboTax are the same no matter how much or how little you earned.

No one can see your screen, your tax return or any of your information.   We do not know what cost you are referring to----the fee for using TurboTax---or the amount you owe to the state?   You only tell us that you earned $38000, but provided no information about your filing status or how much state tax was withheld from your pay.  Provide some details, but without any personal information.
