Why does my license code not work?

I already got an answer that I should call customer service. I did. Got an automated voice that tried to connect me with a person, but no one ever answered and after ½ hour it hung up. I need to know how to complete the installation without calling customer service. I know I typed in the correct number. How can it be wrong?
