Please provide a concrete example. There are many reasons. The two most common reasons:
1. You incorrectly stated the property and/or any of it's assets were less than 100% business use.
2. You reported "personal use days" during the time it was a rental, when you in fact did not have any personal use days.
Where would I have erroneously entered that business assets were less than 100% business use. I used the same approach as in 2021. The comparison chart is where it shows up and it just doesn't make sense. Its almost like the software wants to apportion (reduce) the expenses but in my case I already apply them to my figures before entry but it did not do this for 2021 entries.
On your second point, it is a full time rental without question and I do not believe I toggled a question that would have influenced the reapportionment of my figures.
Check the Rental Property Info section to be sure you indicated 100% ownership. Check ownership % of Assets.
TurboTax would only be prorating expenses if you rented part of your home, were not a 100% owner, converted from personal to rental during the year, etc.
Otherwise, you are correct that the expenses you report should transfer to Schedule E as entered. Is this occurring for all expenses, or only certain ones?
Here's more discussion on Prorated Rental Expenses.
Thank you for the response. What happened was I had a double entry into assets and so now I need to file an amended return for the past years. My mistake but it seems that TT could improve their software by adding details for the questions to provide the preparer with more confidence it what should be entered.
