Why do I have to pay to file my taxes when it should be free to file?

It appears you are using TurboTax Self-Employed.

The creation of a Schedule C reporting income and expenses is one of the most complicated tax forms in a personal tax return. TurboTax Free Edition is for simple tax return.

I suggest you look at Free File Edition. It is not the same as Free Edition and has no upgrade fees.

To you qualify

Make less than $34,000 a year or

Qualify for the Earned Income Credit or

Active military making less than $66,000
