Why did you not tell that I did not need to file because I earned under 12.000

The current threshold is $10,400 for single filers and $20,700 married.

If you had self employment income over $400 you need to file.

Even with income less than these amounts, many taxpayers chose to file for a refund of taxes withheld. 

The program does not know your intentions when you enter your information.
