Why can't you file head of household if you're not married?

You can qualify if you can meet all the requirements below. Click on the qualifying person to see who qualifies. 

1. Were unmarried as of December 31, 2017 and
   
2. Paid more than half the cost to run your (or a qualifying parent's) home in 2017 (rent, mortgage, utilities, etc.) and
3. Supported a qualifying person.
