Why can't I file this year's taxes without last year's w2

This year's tax return is for tax year 2020.  You have to enter a 2020 W-2 on the 2020 tax return.  You cannot enter a W-2 for a prior tax year on a 2020 tax return.

Did a 2019 W2 transfer over you don't need?  You can delete it.  Or exactly what does it want?  You do need your 2019 AGI from your 1040 tax return to efile 2020.

Are you confused?   It does ask for your 2019 AGI so that you can e-file 2020.  But that is not on your W-2.  Your 2019 AGI is on line 8b of your tax return---your 2019 Form 1040.

Your 2019 tax return shows your 2019 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) If you filed a joint return then the AGI is the same for each of you.
