Why am I paying a fee of $80 when I used the free way?

You are posting from the Deluxe version which is not free. Deluxe federal is $40 and state is another $40. You either started in Deluxe by mistake or you were required to upgrade to Deluxe because the Free Edition could not do your tax return. The Free Edition is only for very simple tax returns. Because they preyed upon you, like they did me and apparently a whole lot of others since there's a class action suit against Turbo Tax for precisely this issue.  Never again will I use Turbo Tax.  Shame on them.
