Why am I paying $49 instead of $40 if I pay now, instead of having it deducted from my return?

If you have the fees deducted from your refund there is an EXTRA $40 Pay with Refund service charge which you can avoid by paying  up front with a credit card.

So to be clear if you have it deducted from your refund it will be 49+40 = $89.   Assuming the fee is only $49.  Did you do a state return?  State is a separate charge.  $49 might only be the price for federal.

pay with refund sends your refund thru a third party bank for processing and costs $40.  avoid this service if possible it's like a very bad loan and may delay your refund.
