If your 2017 return was rejected and never filed (why?) then there is no 2017 AGI in the system for you. You have to use zero for your 2017 AGI in order to e-file your 2018 return. If zero does not work then you have to print, sign and mail your 2018 return. Then -- if your 2017 return was really never filed, print, sign and mail it in a separate envelope--it is too late to e-file a 2017 return, but it is not too late to get your 2017 tax refund. And if you owe for 2017, your penalty/interest has been adding up since last year.
