Why am I being asked for an employer ID from my W2 when I am retireed and don't have a W2. I have a 1099?

I get paid on 1099. How do I get past the W2 question?

Is there anything posted in the W-2 area.  If so, you can use the trash can to delete it.

To enter a 1099-R manually in the Desktop version of TurboTax, follow these steps.

Log in to Turbotax

  1. Under Federal
  2. Select Wages $ Income
  3. Scroll to Retirement Plans and Social Security (1099-R)
  4. [Start/Update]
  5. Choose to skip import
  6. Select [Type it in myself]
  7. You can now post your 1099-R into the program

Tell the software you do not have a W-2.

You do not enter any kind of 1099 as a W-2.   What kind of 1099 do you have?   If it is from Social Security you have a SSA1099.

There is no Payer ID  or EIN for a SSA1099.  You are trying to enter it in the wrong place.

Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security  (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter your SSA1099.

Or do you have some other kind of retirement income on a 1099R?

To enter your retirement income, Go to  Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA  401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.
