Who would benefit more from claiming our new baby when we are not married?

My fiance made more than twice what I made in 2016 and we've been told that we would get more back from him claiming our new baby. He is also claiming his other child this year from a previous relationship. My family says I would benefit more from claiming the new baby because it would give me an earned income credit as well as the baby credit. How can you tell which way of filing will give us the most money back? Who should claim our baby?

The only way to tell for sure is to try entering the child on both tax returns after everything else has been entered and see which return yields the biggest benefit.

Just remember that only ONE person may claim the child ... make sure before you file either return that the child is on the return you want and remove them from the other return.
