Where to enter balance payments (NOT estimated tax payments)?

I trade stocks for a living and have no withholdings. I intentionally did not make any estimated tax payments for tax year 2025. I did however make balance payments directly on the IRS website in February and March, on the following dates: Feb 9, Feb 24, Feb 25, Mar 3, Mar 4, Mar 6...total amounts of around $1.1M.

I cannot find anywhere on TurboTax online to enter these payments. These were NOT estimated tax payments since they were made after the Q4 deadline of 1/15/2026. On the payment activity page of the IRS website, they are coded as type="Balance Payment" and Tax Year=2025. When I go to "Income Taxes Paid" under "Deductions & Credits", none of the options (screenshot below) appear correct either (I did not file an extension, I did not have a 2024 refund, etc.).

Where do I input this information? Also, will turbotax automatically update my underpayment penalty to reflect the dates and amounts of these balance payments.

Where to enter balance payments (NOT estimated tax payments)?

These payments are still estimated tax payments, even if they were not made at the usual dates. Any payments made after January 15, 2026 are deemed to be made as of the next estimated tax payment date, i.e. April 15, 2026.

You'll need to enter them in TurboTax as they serve as a credit against your Federal tax liability.

In TurboTax Online, you can enter estimated taxes you paid by following these steps:

  1. Open your tax return
  2. Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then Deductions & Credits
  3. Navigate to the list of Deductions and Credits
  4. Locate the section named Estimates and Other Taxes Paid and click on the arrow on the right
  5. Click on Start next to Estimated Tax Payments
  6. On the next page, click Start next to Federal estimated taxes for 2025 (form 1040ES)
