I would enter the amount that you actually received. The IRS will more than likely contact you about the discrepancy and you can then provide them with proof of your actual payment.

Was the plot purchase made using an insurance annuity or was it a simple cash transaction? How much did you pay, how much was returned and how much is shown on Form 1099-misc?
