Where do I indication applying the state tax overpayment to next year?

To apply your state refund to next year, enter it under

State Taxes tab

And keep continuing and stepping through the interview about a dozen or more screens and it will finally ask how much you want to apply.  It is probably one of the last questions in the state section.

If you would like to apply your state tax overpayment to next  year, you can easily get to those screens in TurboTax using the steps listed below:

1. Click on your State Taxes Tab
2. Select Edit next to your state tax return or you may see Take a Look at XXXX credits and taxes will show Select Done with credits
3. Your TurboTax screen will say You just finished your XXX state Return
4. Scroll down to Other Forms and select Update
5. Your screen will say Additional Tax Situations
6. Under Other Forms You May Need 
7. Click on Start next to Prepare Estimates or Apply Your Refund to 2026
