You can create the 1040X from your current TurboTax product- it is just not available yet. You should wait until the return is fully processed before starting to amend. If you are expecting a refund and are amending for an additional refund, the IRS states you should wait until you've received the original refund. Then, you can amend as soon as the federal amended tax return form 1040-X is available for filing in TurboTax. Use this tool to check availability of forms, including 1040X: Tax form availability
Here is some more information on filing amendments: How to File an Amended Tax Return with the IRS
Widow is not a filing status. If your spouse passed away in 2025 you can file as Married Filing Jointly.
If your spouse passed away in 2024 or 2023 and you have a qualifying child as a dependent you can file as a Qualifying Surviving Spouse.
If your spouse passed away prior to 2023 and you have a qualifying person as a dependent you may be eligible for Head of Household filing status.
The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 02/19/2026
You will have to wait for the IRS to either Accept or Reject your filed federal tax return.
If the return is rejected you can make the necessary changes and e-file again.
If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it. It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner. The IRS does not allow you to take it back.
If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.” The changes will go nowhere.
Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.
If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally. You will need to use a form called a 1040X.
Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself. Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed
The Form 1040X you need becomes available in late February, But wait until your return has been processed.
You seem to want to change your filing status. Before you try --- let's make sure you understand filing status. If your spouse passed in 2025, you can still file a joint return for tax year 2025. If your spouse passed in an earlier year, you will now file as Single, unless you have a dependent child. If you have a dependent child, for two years after your spouse passes, you can file as a Qualified Surviving Spouse.
Head of Household is used if you have been single for longer than those two additional years and still have dependent children to claim.
Am I Head of Household?
If you qualify as Head of Household, when you enter your marital status (single or married filing separately) into MyInfo, and then enter your qualifying dependent, TurboTax will offer HOH as your filing status.
Before you attempt to amend---provide some details so we can help you.
