Where can I find the miscellaneous income entry in the Tax Return?

I entered the ordinary income of my ESPP sale in the Miscellaneous Income / Other reportable income. However, when reviewing the 1040, I cannot find this income in the form. Where can I find this income in the Tax form?

Misc. income from Form 1099-MISC, box 3 is reported on Schedule 1, line 8 (other income), and transferred to line 8 of your 1040.

For more information on Form 1040-MISC, refer to the TurboTax article 1099-MISC Instructions and How to Read the Tax Form.

Thanks for quick response! I saw the ordinary income of ESPP I had entered in Schedule 1 line 8 and 1040 line 8.  Just note that the ordinary income of ESPP sale is not reported in 1099-Misc or 1099-B, but in the 1099-B supplemental page for information only. In my case, it is not reported in W2, either.  I had to enter the data manually under the Miscellaneous Income/Other Reportable Income in Turbo Tax.

Not sure why you stick to 1099-MISC. I just wanted to know where the ordinary income from ESPP sale I entered in the TurboTax is shown on the tax return. This ordinary income has nothing to do with 1099-MISC. Now I know where it is shown. Did I misunderstand your reply? Thanks for your help.

The ordinary income from the sale of ESPP shares is shown on Form 1040, typically as part of your wages or compensation income. This amount usually comes from the "bargain element"—the discount you received on the stock purchase—and is often included on your W-2. When you enter the ESPP sale details in TurboTax, the program combines your W-2 information and 1099-B sale details to correctly report the ordinary income as compensation on your tax return.

The gain that is not ordinary income is reported as capital gain on Schedule D or Form 8949 depending on the holding period. However, the portion considered ordinary income appears with your wages on Form 1040.
