turbotax web 2020 will become inactive a few month after tax deadline). I need to file extension and do tax later. When turbotax web becomes inactive, Is there option to get downloaded version for free for the same web version I paid?

If you do not complete your online 2020 return by the deadline for an extension---October 15---- then the only way you will be able to finish preparing it will be by downloading (and paying for) the CD/download software and using it on a full PC or Mac.   And it will have to be filed by mail since e-filing will shut down too.   

No there will not be an option to get the download for free.   If you use a paid version of the online software they will give you a download.

Usually it is taken offline shortly after the filing extension deadline in October.  You would have to call Customer Service about the Desktop version, since it is priced differently, and can do multiple returns.

Are you sure it's active before Oct 15? I remember logging into TurboTax before after filing in prior years, and it became inactive before Oct. 15.

TT stays active until people with extensions have filed.   Your memory is incorrect.
