A form 1099-Misc is a form issued to you by someone who paid you an income but was not your employer.

For example, if you own a cleaning business and clean an office building nightly, the building owner would issue you a 1099-Misc at the end of the year showing how much they paid you. You would need to enter that information on your tax return in TurboTax.
