Line 9a will include your ordinary dividends that are taxed at the same rate as the rest of your income.

Line 9b has your qualified dividends that receive special tax treatment due to their holding period. They will be taxed at the lower long-term capital gains tax rate..

Line 9b has your qualified dividends that receive special tax treatment due to their holding period. They will be taxed at the lower long-term capital gains tax rate..

Actually line 9a lists ALL of the dividends paid and then line 9b breaks out the portion of the 9a dividends that are qualified for the lower capital gains treatment.
