When I initially filed my taxes it showed I was getting an IL state refund of 142 .... but after my federal was accepted, it now shows that I owe 14.

When I initially filed my taxes it showed I was getting an IL state refund of 142 .... but after my federal was accepted, it now shows that I owe 14.
A reduction of a refund can happen for a few reasons, it could also be due to a refund offset or a change made to your tax return. A refund offset is when a refund is reduced or intercepted to pay off delinquent debt such as delinquent/unpaid state income tax.

If it is due to an offset or change to your tax return you will receive a letter in the mail that will explain the reason.
