When I first filed my return, my parents claimed me as a dependent so my return was void. They fixed and refiled their return but mine is still denied. How do I fix it?

You cannot e-file, even if your parents amended.  Your SSN is in the system for the 2018 tax year.  Print sign and mail your own return.  That is the only way you can file it now.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

The bigger question is: Can your parents claim you?    It they qualify to claim you then it does not matter if they actually do claim you or not.  Under tax law, you cannot claim yourself if you CAN be claimed regardless it you are actually claimed.

Thank you for your response. I cannot be claimed by them due to my military status.
