Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

When I filed, it said that the IRS opens on January 31, so TurboTax will hold my return til then. Which is ok with me. But the IRS website says it opens January 24. Why?

Why would TurboTax wait an additional week?

Exactly where does Turbo Tax say Jan 31?  Can you post a screen shot or link?   Maybe you have a form that won't be ready or finalized until Jan 31.

Hey! It was here on my timeline after I applied. Its not really a big deal, I'm not in a hurry. I just was curious of the difference. Screenshot 2022-01-20 131314.png

hmmm...wonder if someone just tagged "2022" into the text from 2021 timeline.

The "expected" acceptance date is also showing a couple days later in Feb.

There are a couple of possibilities and factoids.  One, the IRS only released their date recently, maybe the earlier date is a placeholder in the program and it will be updated.  Two, the IRS takes some returns early for testing; this is not announced and can't be predicted or expected, but some people are processed early.  (Even with early testing, refunds are not issued until the first official refund cycle.)

I know of no reason that Turbotax would hold returns longer than necessary.  Turbotax does not actually send information to the IRS, the IRS connects to a data warehouse and downloads returns in batches.  That's why it can sometimes take a couple of days even during peak season.   If your return is submitted and in the data warehouse, it should be picked up whenever the IRS decides to turn on their systems.
