When filing by mail, how long do you know when you Accepted or Rejected? Also how long to receive check, when accepted?
The only way to know if the IRS has received and processed your income tax return is to check the IRS website at Where’s My Refund?. You can start checking Where’s My Refund? for your refund’s status 4 weeks after you’ve mailed a paper tax return.
This information is directly from the IRS website:
- What information does Where’s My Refund? have? It has information on the most recent tax year refund we have on file for you.
- Will Where’s My Refund? show me when I’ll receive my refund? Where’s My Refund? will give you a personalized date after we process your return and approve your refund.
- Will calling you help me get my refund any faster? No. Our phone and walk-in representatives can only research the status of your refund 6 weeks after you mailed your paper return; or if Where’s My Refund? directs you to contact us.
You should have your tax return in front of you because there is some information on it you'll need to provide. Specifically, you need three pieces of information. Mark these items on your tax return or write them down before you call for your refund status:
- Your Social Security Number (SSN), or other Taxpayer ID Number (TIN)
- Your filing status
- The exact amount you are owed by the IRS (in the form of a tax refund)
Note that you need the EXACT whole dollar amount you are owed. If you don’t have this along with the other personal information, you cannot check your Federal tax refund status.
