When are independent contractors supposed to be copied on our client's taxes? To specify, our clients are those who received a 1099 MISC form from us during the year.

By January 31, 2018, if you are reporting nonemployee compensation in box 7.

I don't quite understand your question.  "copied on our client's taxes"??  Independent Contractors usually file a schedule C in their personal 1040 tax return.  They report all their self employment income actually received during the year (Jan 1 to Dec 31).  If they get a 2017 1099Misc from you it goes on their 2017 tax return.   You have to send out the 1099Misc to them by Jan 31 each year.

OK, I understand. I am filing schedule C on my personal 1040 as well. I need to file a 2017 1099 MISC for an information return to the IRS because I received payments of over $600 in non-employee compensation.

Just to be clear.......you do not prepare or file a 1099Misc for payments you receive.  You will get a 1099Misc from the people who pay you.  You don't have to prepare it on yourself.  You enter any 1099Misc you receive into Turbo Tax.  Even if they don't send you a 1099Misc by Jan 31 you still have to include the income on your schedule C.

You only fill in the actual 1099Misc to give out to people that you pay.

Thank you and I did receive a hard copy of a 1099 MISC from a person I did contract work for. I am e-filing their form on Turbo-Tax Self Employment online.

You mean you are entering it into the self employed version?   You don't efile it by itself.  You will be efiling your whole 1040 tax return after the first of the year.

oh okay, I understand. Yes, I am entering it into the self-employment version. I haven't bought it yet, but that's what I plan to do.
