What should my W4 look like if I'm married and want to receive the maximum refund when filing?

I will be getting married this year and I'd like to know if and how I should adjust my W4 with my employer. For this tax year - even after marriage - I will be the only earner and we will have no kids/dependents. I would like to have more taxes taken out of my paychecks so that I can receive the maximum refund when it's time to file taxes. What should my payroll withholding status and number of allowances be changed to? Currently, my withholding status is "Single" and number of allowances is "0".

The amount of withholding you have now -- "Single" and "0" allowances -- gives you the most taxes withheld from your paycheck.  You can ask for additional dollar amounts to be withheld on top of this amount.

While the thought of a large tax refund is attractive, a much better plan is to put the extra money into a savings account each payday, rather than extra withholding.  You have the use of the money when and if you need it and it earns interest. If you let the IRS hold it, you don't have access to the money if you need it and the government gets the interest!  [Better YOU than them.]
