What should I do if the Employer's State ID number is missing on my W-2? I tried to leave it blank while filing my taxes but it wont let me.

If the state ID is missing, you can use the Federal Employer ID from Box b of the W-2.

You can also:

• Ask your employer or contact your payroll service for the number.
• If you worked for the same company you can check your previous year's return.
• If you want to dig deeper, you can contact your state's Department of Revenue to request the employer's state tax identification number.
