What should I do if my IRS wage and income transcript shows a lower amount ($900) less than what my employer put on my W-2?

Do I need to do anything?

The amounts should match.

Are you looking at your W-2 Box 1?

Can you give us a little more information please.

What tax year is this concerning?

Why do you have a tax transcript from the IRS?

Did your (or will your) employer be issuing a corrected W-2?

Looking at box 1 on my w2. This is concerning this tax year 2025. And I am not sure. Upon looking at my tax transcript the numbers are different than on my w2 by $900. And I’m not sure if they need to issue a corrected w2. That’s what I am asking here. Is it an issue or will it automatically be corrected by the IRS?

Use your W-2.

It should not be an issue. I assume the IRS does not have their copy of your W-2 yet.

The IRS may not have received or inputted the information from their copy of your W-2 and may have listed the information they received from the Social Security Administration.  The income the SSA reports to the IRS could be different or just not yet up-to-date.

If the IRS is just waiting for their W-2, they will update your wage on your transcript when they get their copy.

If you are unsure, you can ask your employer if they had to issue a Corrected W-2 (W-2C)  but I would assume the IRS just is not fully updated.
