What's Turbotax looking for, when importing from other apps? I'm looking to produce reports (format/fields/file type?) for quarterly and yearly consulting income.

Developing a time capturing app and want to be able to produce quarterly and yearly tax info report, in a generic tax format, readily imported into Turbotax.

Does anyone have report/export samples or a list of fields, TT is looking for?

TurboTax has a very limited capability to import .txf files. See the FAQ at the following link.

Note that only the CD/Download TurboTax software can import a .txf file, not TurboTax Online and not TurboTax Business.

Also note the important point that VolvoGirl made in a comment above. TurboTax is used to prepare tax returns. Therefore, it only uses yearly totals. If you're going to import any information into TurboTax, you would do it only once, after the end of the year, when the tax return is being prepared. You talk about importing quarterly and yearly "reports" into TurboTax, but TurboTax has no use for reports, and doesn't import reports. And it has no use for quarterly data. It just imports year-end tax data. Furthermore, information about individual invoices is not used in a tax return. The only information from an invoicing app that would be useful for a tax return is the total amount actually paid (received) during the year, or the total amount invoiced if the business uses the accrual method. But that's just one total for the year. It would be much easier to key in the total income manually than to import a .txf file.

Oh so you are not looking for software to import into Turbo Tax?  You are trying to develop one?  Oh and it depends on what version you will be importing to....like the Turbo Tax Online web version or the Desktop installed program (and Windows or Mac)

Turbo Tax mainly  imports from Quicken and QuickBooks.  Here's some FAQ on those,

Here's a FAQ about importing  .txf  files.  So if you can make a .txf you might get something,

Thanks, VolvoGirl.  I have an invoicing app and I want the users to have the ability to do reports that easily import into Turbotax.

...so I'm looking for the format (categories/fields) Turbotax requires.

I don't see how that would work.  They would need to first import to something like Quicken or QuickBooks which then could import to Turbo Tax at the end of the year with the annual totals.  You wouldn't go directly to TT.
