If you are using online Premier there is a fee for the federal return and a fee for the state return---the fees are for using the software.   There is not a fee to e-file using online.   The fee is the same whether you e-file or mail it in an envelope.

The current price for Premier and state  (notice it says "state additional") can be seen on this screen:

There are no e-file charges when using the TurboTax online editions, federal or state.  The TurboTax online account fees are for the use of the software to assist in completing a tax return.  The fees are the same whether the tax return is e-filed or printed for mailing.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for checking your fees - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/how-do-i-review-my-fees-in-turbotax-online/0...

Your answer is just flat wrong.  The only way to e-file for free is with the simple Free Edition. Intuit is purposely misleading people by allowing your answer to stand.

@jccc99 Even when you use the higher versions of the software, the fees are for the use of the software.  There is no extra fee to e-file.  If you use Deluxe or higher, the fee is the same whether you e-file or mail it in an envelope.  Only the Free Edition is truly free.   Any other version must be paid for.   The ONLY time there is a fee for e-filing is when you use the CD/download software. With that software there will always be a fee to e-file a state return; but the state e-file fee can be avoided if you print and mail the state.

After talking with a live person I went back and deleted my comment. I now understand that e-filing is free but not why you can't just say so.  Thank you
