I you were married in 2016, you should file married filing joint in order to get preferable tax treatment. Do not worry about your W-2. The IRS determines what your filing status is, (i.e., single, head of household, married filing joint, etc…) by looking at your income tax return.  Please don’t forget to get a social security number for your new baby so that you can claim him or her on your taxes.
