What happens if I accidentally filed the same return twice and one is accepted and the other is rejected

the first was accepted. if it is incorrect you will need to file an amended return once your return is fully processed.  online only keeps the last copy you did. so the rejected copy has any changes you made. to file an amended return you need to delete those changes and use the amended return process to change the original so 1040-x and required forms can be e-filed.
