Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

What form to use, I presented as a contractor once last year and was paid. It is not a business, just a onetime thing.

It was $500 and I know the income was reported to the IRS, I am not sure if I should expect a form from them or if this is something I just have to report myself. It looks like 1099 or 1099 misc. might be my best guess.

Whether or not you get a form report it as Other Income since it was a one time thing.

As the amount is less than $600, you will not receive a form 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC from the principal, but you still have to report this income on your tax return.

If this a "one time thing" with no intention of making a profit, then this amount can be reported as Other reportable income.

See this IRS document.

In TurboTax Online, open your return and follow these steps:

  1. Click on Wages and Income
  2. Navigate to the list of income categories
  3. Locate the Less Common Income section and click on the arrow on the right
  4. Click Start next to Miscellaneous Income at the bottom
  5. On the next page, click Start next to Other Reportable Income.
