The EIN for that is listed at the very top-left of my paper 1099-INT ( part of the Payer Information,) that I downloaded as a PDF file from the Treasury Direct website.

For me, it shows up as 53-0197074......can't guarantee yours might be different for some strange reason...but probably the same.

@SteamTrain do you know why is TT asking for these on 1099s I see a lot of threads about this - is this just TT online version for some reason?  It's not asking for these in the desktop version and I don't believe needed to file.

@baldietax   It certainly would be required if Federal taxes are withheld...but that rarely happens for 1099-DIV, -INT forms unless the receiver has set it up to occur because the $$ amounts can be large for certain situations.

Most of the time, I "think" the request from the software, for the EIN on -DIV and -INT forms, (no Fed or state withholding) only happens when the user chooses to upload a picture, or a PDF file of their form, and not just type it in themselves.  The Pictures and PDF uploads end up entering a bunch of unnecessary stuff, many time including zeroes in boxes that really should be left blank....then the software "thinks" it needs EIN because a zero was entered in the Federal withholding box...or some such other nonsense.

(Opinion:  Never upload a picture or PDF of a tax form and expect it to be flawless)

But, those are just my guesses for now.

TurboTax used to ask if the payer provided their EIN and would not require it if you said No.  TurboTax now appears to require the EIN for all Forms 1099-INT entered.

I don't recall ever receiving a Form 1099-INT that did not have the payer's EIN on the form.

My Windows Desktop program doesn't have a spot to enter the EIN on any interest or dividends. even if you want to enter it.    You can enter EIN on a 1099B but it says (optional).

"My Windows Desktop program doesn't have a spot to enter the EIN"

Mine does (Deluxe).  Do you need to update?

I'll note that all that is happening is that step-by-step mode is indicating that review is needed.  Lack of an EIN does not generate any errors during Smart Check.  So TurboTax does not actually seem to require the EIN as I previously stated, but just complains a bit if you don't provide it.

Well my most recent update was 2/7.  But I'll update again.  They have been putting out updates a lot more often lately than just on Thursdays.  I have Windows Home & Business.

UPDATE on my updates.  It says I'm up to date.

Apparently, a step-by-step-mode difference between Deluxe and Home & Business.

If I go into Forms mode and enter it on the worksheet it does show up in step by step but only on that one 1099.  Hmmm,  maybe if you transferred from 2023 and it came over it will show up?  I don't think I ever typed in the EIN on prior returns.  I only enter manually not import.

More info.  I opened my 2023 HB program and no EIN spots.  So I added an EIN in Forms, saved and closed  2023.  Then transferred that return into 2024.  The EIN shows up for that bank in step by step.
