If you are the one claiming them for 2021 then you get the full amount of the 2021 child tax credit. Their dad may or may not have to re-pay the amount he received in advance, depending on his income. That is why people who knew they would not claim a child for 2021 were given the chance to "opt out" of getting those advance payments.

@karinelson7 You will be able to claim the full amount of the Child Tax Credit for your child on your 2021 tax return even if the other parent received advance Child Tax Credit payments. The other parent should have unenrolled from receiving advance payments, but their decision will not affect your ability to claim the Child Tax Credit. Per IRS.

So even though he got the advanced payments, I check “No” that I didn’t get them?
Yes, check "No" because you didn't get the Child Tax Credit payments, your children's father did.
