In most cases, the best way to avoid tax penalties is to make quarterly Estimated Tax Payments.  If you simply need to have more taxes withheld from your paycheck, you can submit a new Form W-4 to your employer.  Go to W-4 Withholding Calculator to guide you through completing this form.
