I am a US citizen working in the US, while my wife lives abroad and she is a NRA. We go married last year and we are waiting for her immigration paperwork to go through. We are electing to file as Married Filing Jointly with a statement of declaration. But how and where do I show her income on our jointly filed 1040?
FYI, she has an ITIN.
Thank you!
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You need to enter her income in the foreign income section of TurboTax.
In TurboTax type in foreign income in the search bar at the top of the screen and click the Jump to link.
Enter her income and a few screens later it will ask you Would You Like to Try and Exclude Your Foreign Earned Income? Click No, I know I don't qualify to exclude my foreign income.
Assuming she paid foreign tax on her income, you then need to go to the foreign tax credit section of TurboTax.
