W-2 lists me an AZ empl but I am a res of WA (in WA for 9 mos, AZ for 3; mobile office). Can I change the AZ "Sourced Income" # in my AZ filing to the lower/correct amt?

I expected to be able to adjust my income amount to reflect only the time I live in AZ (3 months in 2016).  But the state for pulls from the W-2, which reflects how my employer classifies me but I remain a WA residence.  What is my option?

Yes, You may first want to contact your employer to see if they will issue you a corrected W-2 related to the state sourcing of your income.

However, if your employer will not issue you a corrected W-2 and if you are a permanent residence of WA and only worked temporarily in AZ but your W-2 reports that all your income was AZ-source, you can change the AZ-source wage amount to reflect your AZ-source income only. This way the correct amount will flow from your W-2 to your AZ nonresident state income tax return.

Please note that if you change the amount that was originally reported for state tax purposes on your W-2, you may not be able to efile your state return. In this instance, you must mail in this AZ nonresident state income tax return and include your state W-2 information. You will want to include an explanatory statement with your AZ return stating your situation (that your AZ employer reported an incorrect amount as your AZ wages and you were unable to obtain a corrected W-2 from your employer).

Just keep a record of this change with your tax files for future reference.
