I entered my W-2 info and then specified that the income is "Nontaxable Medicaid waiver payments...". Problem is during the Smart Check, the amount on the W-2 is ###.50 but the software rounds up when it puts it into the form. The Smart check then give an error saying that "Difficulty of care payments included in box 1 should not be larger than the wage amount in box1". Anybody know a workaround for the bug or can it just be ignored?

After you entered the W-2 and got the screen asking about if it's "Nontaxable Medicare waiver payments that qualify as difficulty of care payments" and then CONTINUE didn't the next screen ask if it was
All of it
None of it
Some of it
If you select All of it, the program should not ask for a dollar amount.
Is this what happened and the program gives you an error?
Yes, it displayed the screen where I said that all of the amount applied so I didn't have to specify an amount. The problem is when the W-2 is displayed in the Smart Check, the wage amount has the 50 cents but line 13b has been rounded up (e.g. wage $1.50 but 13b would have $2.). The error says that the 13b amount shouldn't be more that the wage.
Change the amount to $2, so they match.
Hi,
In this page am I suppose to select "All of it" or "None of it" and then enter the number in the box?
Hi @CatinaT1,
On this page, which option am I supposed to choose?
We need a little more info about any Medicaid waiver payments that qualify as difficulty of care payments.
How much of the $12,000 in box 1 is difficulty of care payments?
All of it or None of it?
If I click None of it, am I suppose to enter "12,000" into the box that says "Enter the total amount of difficulty of care payments you received from..."?
I live with the family member I care for in CA.
Please let me know. Thank you!!
Choose that all of the amount in Box 1 on your W-2 is for Difficulty of Care Payments.
Hi @MarilynG1,
on my W2 my box 1 says 0, but based on other posts I read it says to put whatever is in my box 3 which is the "12,000" I mentioned earlier. Should I still select the "All of it" option?
Yes, that is correct. You can't Efile with a $0 in Box 1.
Here's more info on How to Report Medicaid Waiver Payments.
