W-2 Clergy No Box 1 Data-all income was reported as Housing allowance in Box 14

We are clergy with typically a split of salary in Box 1 and Housing allowance in Box 14. This year the employer placed all income into box 14 as housing allowance. Is there a work around to e-file?

If your software refuses to e-file because Box 1 is empty or zero, the standard industry workaround is to:

1. Enter $1 in Box 1.
2. Subtract $1 from your Box 14 Housing Allowance total.

This keeps the total income reported to the IRS identical but enables the program's e-file capability.
