The amount in box 4 should be equal to 6.2% of the social security wages listed in box 3 (.062 x wages listed in box 3)
Federal tax withheld may or may not be higher than social security tax withheld. Social security tax is withheld at a fixed rate of 6.2% Federal income tax withholding will vary based on your estimated income for the year and how your W-4 was filled out (single or married and number of exemptions claimed).
